While I cannot, in this post, fully explain it, the above picture is a wonderful example of the purpose of South Charlotte Baptist Academy and why I am very thankful for the ministry of South Charlotte Baptist Academy!
Recently, I came across an old South Charlotte Baptist Church bulletin from July 17, 1983!
This bulletin was for the dedication of what we now call the "Kirk Building." (Dr. Walter Kirk was the individual that God used to start South Charlotte Baptist Church. He served as pastor from 1977 until 1989.) The Kirk Building was the very first building that South Charlotte Baptist Church built and it served as the auditorium for SCBC until 2001 when our current auditorium was completed. In 2006, the Kirk Building was completely gutted and remodeled to serve as an educational space for South Charlotte Baptist Academy (which, as ministry, began in 2003).
As part of that dedication service in 1983, Mr. Duane Hansen (one of the SCBC deacons at the time) led the congregation in a dedication vow of and for the use of the Kirk Building.
One of the last statements of that dedication vow was the following:
Mr. Hansen: "For the spiritual training of our youth"
Congregational response: "We dedicate this house"
For the Spiritual Training of Our Youth
South Charlotte Baptist Church, from its very inception, has been dedicated to the spiritual training of our youth! Yes, in 2003, that took the form of South Charlotte Baptist Academy and I am very thankful for the ministry of SCBA. (All of my children were students of SCBA.)
I never get tired of sharing the purpose of SCBA with new families (and of reminding our current families)!
"And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;" 2 Peter 1:5
Using the tool of education, SCBA assists families as they: 1) Guide their children to establish a foundation of faith; 2) Form solid, Christ-like character; and 3) Develop their God-given abilities to serve Him!
South Charlotte Baptist Academy is about much more than simply giving children a good education (although the students of SCBA receive an excellent education)! We take seriously the words penned by King David in Psalm 78:
"We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done." Psalm 78:4
"That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children: That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:" Psalm 78:6-7
This Thanksgiving I want to take the opportunity to say "Thank You" for allowing us the opportunity to serve you and your families as we not only train them academically but, even more importantly, as we train them spiritually.
